Liechtenstein summer (2023)
Day 1: A Cozy Stay in Schaan and Obere Burg Adventure
Accommodation at Jugendherberge Schaan-Vaduz Hostel:
Upon arriving in the charming town of Schaan, my home for the next two nights was the Jugendherberge Schaan-Vaduz Hostel. This cozy and welcoming hostel, situated in the heart of Schaan, was an ideal base for my Liechtenstein exploration. Very friendly staff and playful atmosphere. We actually could play some ping-pong before going to bed which was really fun night.
Exploring Obere Burg and Its Surroundings: Free for tourists
The highlight of the day was the exploration of Obere Burg, a magnificent castle located in Schellenburg surrounded by breathtaking landscapes. Don't expect a full castle, you will see some ruins but the beauty is that you can imagine how wonderful the castle was at that time. The castle's rich history goes back to 1200 offering a fascinating glimpse into Liechtenstein's past, making it a perfect start to my adventure.
Day 2: Gutenberg Castle and Italian Flavors at Cesare
As the sun rose on my second day in Liechtenstein, another set of adventures awaited.
A Glimpse into the Past at Schloss Vaduz: Free for tourists
Gutenberg Castle, located in Balzers, Liechtenstein, has a rich history dating back to the High Middle Ages. Built in the 12th century, it served as a strategic fortress, protecting the region and controlling trade routes. Over the centuries, the castle underwent modifications and witnessed various historical events. Today, it stands as a testament to Liechtenstein's medieval past, offering visitors a captivating journey through time.
Dining at Cesare:
Eager to indulge in more of Liechtenstein's culinary offerings, I reserved the evening for a visit to Cesare, an authentic Italian restaurant in the heart of the capital. From delectable pasta to mouthwatering pizza, each dish at Cesare was a culinary masterpiece, providing a delightful conclusion to my two-day exploration of Liechtenstein.
In conclusion, my time in Liechtenstein was a captivating blend of history, culture, and gastronomic delights. I invite fellow adventurers to embark on their own two-day journey to uncover the magic that lies within the heart of this tiny principality.
Vaduz downtown:
After eating we decided to take a look at the city center and look for some magnets. In the downtown, we were surprised by the yellow brick textile on the floor which goes on to the facade of the building. Given the warm and welcoming feeling it was a very nice experience to feel integrated with the surroundings and that gentle architecture.
Treasure Chamber:
The Liechtenstein Treasure Chamber in Vaduz is a special place that shows things connected to Liechtenstein's history. There are cool items such as the famous "Apple Blossom Egg" by Karl Fabergé, and the Moon Rock from Apollo 11 with the Liechtenstein flag, representing Liechtenstein's historical contributions to space exploration. The museum has important items that tell the story of Liechtenstein's past and its part in space exploration. It's like a big treasure box full of interesting stuff! Since taking a photo was forbidden there, I put the link to the museum so you can see how it was.
